Getting a Fido SIM card is not a big deal. You can run to the nearest store, or arrange a contactless, free SIM card delivery to your doorstep. The problem arises when you insert the SIM card, and discover that you cannot call, text, or access the Internet. This can rile you up and make you think there’s something wrong with it. Some people prefer to give it a day, thinking that time alone will remedy the issue. While this is the case with some carriers, won’t work with Fido. That’s because it takes deliberate action, which we’ll describe as we show you how to activate Fido SIM card.
1. Activate Fido SIM card: Prepaid
Although you can monitor your Fido prepaid SIM card via their website or the Fido My Account app, you cannot activate one that way. Fido requires you to show up at the nearest branded store with two pieces of ID. Typically, they ask for a personal ID and a driver’s license. For that reason, you should buy a SIM card from Fido and have them activate it for you immediately. This is why Fido has a Store Locator section on their website.
2. Fido SIM Activation: Pay as you go
Like prepaid SIM cards, you can only track or refill your balance online. Visiting their branded store in person with valid documents is the only way to activate a Fido pay-as-you-go SIM card.
3. Activate Fido SIM card: Postpaid
Activating a Fido postpaid SIM card is more convenient since you can do it online. The problem is, it only works if you’re changing the old Fido SIM card because you’ve got a new one. If you’re a first-time user, you must swing by the nearest store too. So, this is how the online postpaid activation process works:
- Visit Fido.ca then click on Sign In in the upper right corner.
- Enter the account credentials and click on the Sign In button.
- Once you’re logged in, go to the Services tab.
- Select Mobile.
- Scroll down to the Quick Actions section, and click on the Update SIM Card link.
- Enter the SIM card ICCID or IMEI, depending on what’s asked of you.
- Tip. To find IMEI or ICCID, check the package your Fido SIM card arrived in. Alternatively, follow the steps under the How to check whether the smartphone uses CDMA headline in our CDMA SIM card article.
- Click on Next, then Update SIM.
- You activated your postpaid Fido SIM card.
