Yoodo SIM card comes from an eponymous Malaysian mobile network provider. And not just any; they became the first MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) in the country, and use Celcom’s network. Moreover, they remain the country’s only fully digital telecommunications provider as of late 2021. As if that wasn’t enough, they are the sole providers of fully customizable plans and optionally, unlimited data. Their name might also ring familiar as a sponsor of the sports, e-sports, K-pop, entertainment, and music industries. With that said, let’s dive straight into how to activate the Yoodo SIM card.
1. Get a Yoodo SIM card
We usually assume you have this part covered and skip it entirely. However, in this case, there are multiple options. Additionally, the carrier frequently promotes limited-time offers, especially in regards to free data. This oftentimes makes people decide to get a new SIM card phone number instead of porting an old one. With all that in mind, there are 5 ways of getting a Yoodo SIM card:
- Regular order. After ordering on their website or the app, a SIM will arrive in the mail within 3 to 6 business days.
- Express SIM Delivery with GoGet. Pay a little extra for the SIM to arrive in less than 2 hours or the next day at a discount. Only available in regions such as Johor Bahru, Klang Valley, and Penang.
- Visiting a store. You can purchase a SIM card at any of their parent company’s locations, i.e., “Celcom bluecube” stores.
- Visiting a gas station. Yoodo sells SIMs at Petronas Mesra and BHPetroMart businesses in Peninsular Malaysia.
- Downloading necessary data. The carrier supports embedded SIM cards. Follow the instructions under step 2, method 2 to enable it.
2. Activate Yoodo SIM card via their app
The carrier sponsors well-known mobile video games such as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) and PUBG Mobile, and offers free data for them. We’re pointing this out to explain why the only way of activating a Yoodoo SIM card is through their mobile apps. More specifically, Yoodo for iOS, Yoodo for Android, and HUAWEI Yoodo app. So, after installation, follow these steps to enable Yoodo SIM depending on the preferred method:
1. Physical SIM
Activating a physical SIM card from Yoodo works like this:
- Tap on Activate a SIM.
- Tap on the Get Started button.
- Select the Physical SIM option.
- Enter the 18-digit ICCID on the SIM card package or take a picture of the barcode.
- Select the payment plan; either one of the premade ones or create yours.
- In the latter case, choose the add-ons that fit your needs best and tap on I want this plan.
- Switch between two tabs: “Select a new number” and “Keep my number”.
- If you choose the former option, select one of the offer numbers and tap on Select this number.
- Under “Identity check”, get your Malaysian NRIC (National Registration Identity Card) or passport ready before tapping on Register ID.
- Take a picture of your ID, then a selfie. The system will use facial recognition to match them.
- If successful, register payment details and complete the payment.
- Wait for a few minutes for the network signal to appear.
2. Embedded SIM
If you don’t want to insert a SIM card, you can do the following within the app:
- Follow steps 1 and 2 above.
- Select the eSIM option.
- Go through setting up your payment plan and pay.
- Select a phone number as in steps 7 and 8 above.
- Create an account, and provide details about your identity as we described in steps 9 and 10.
- Await a QR code image sent to the e-mail address you provided.
- You can now scan the QR code to download the data by going to:
- iOS: Open Settings. Under “Cellular” (might be called “Mobile Data”), tap on Add Data Plan.
- Android: Launch Settings. Tap on Network & Internet. Select Download a SIM instead under “Mobile network”. Select Next.
- A Yoodo SIM profile will be created, and the SIM will start working shortly.
