MTN is a mobile telecommunications brand owned by MTN Group. They are the largest operator of mobile services in Africa, with presence in countries we’ll mention. The carrier also has a lot of influence in the Middle East. Further, MTN exists in 19 markets, with over 270 million subscribers worldwide, and is equally well-known for offering prepaid and postpaid SIM card plans. The carrier also dabbles in broadband Internet, fintech, and MoMo (Mobo Money), among other services. Regardless of what you plan to use it for, you’ll need an answer to the question, “what is MTN SIM price?” Thankfully, we’re here to give it, and in great detail. With that said, let’s dig in.
How much does an MTN SIM card cost in Nigeria?
An MTN card used to cost only N100 (Nigerian Naira) or roughly $0.25 until June 1, 2021. On that day, its price was quadrupled to N400 (~$0.95), which is still the price at the time of publication in Nigeria. That applies to brand-new SIM cards for new users. Old users may request a replacement, an upgrade to 4G, or a comeback to the network. Prices of such SIM cards depend on the prepaid plan and the length of the postpaid contract. In all cases, you must bring your National Identification Number (NIN), as mandated by law.
What are the costs of an MTN South Africa SIM?
You get a SIM card for free as part of any prepaid or pay-as-you-go starter pack from MTN South Africa. These start at around R3.5 (South African Rand). However, there are online reseller stores that stock these SIMs at unbelievably low prices, going low as R1. Unsurprisingly, you still have to recharge credit or sign up for a payment plan. Note that you must provide your identity according to RICA (The Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act).
MTN Uganda SIM pricing
Purchasing a new SIM card from MTN Uganda will cost you 2000 UGX (Ugandan Shilling) or about $0.55. Those prices apply to MTN stores in the country, but also to airports and resellers. Getting a replacement for the stolen or lost one, or upgrading from a 3G to a 4G SIM card will only cost you 1500 UGX or roughly $0.4.
Costs of MTN Zambia SIMs
These are hard to tell. A prepaid SIM card MTN Zambia provides is usually around 10 kwacha (ZMW) or about $0.6. However, there are a plethora of cheaper plans with low data or reduced validity. We’ve seen the price go down as low as 5 kwacha or $0.3, and saw many weekly plans costing roughly 7 kwacha or $0.45.
Prices of MTN Syria SIM cards
SIM cards from MTN Syria will end up costing you 250 SYP (Syrian Pound) or about $0.1, whether you order them via Customer Service or visit a store uninvited. You can also purchase these SIMs from Aleppo International Airport or Damascus International Airport. A valid ID is necessary, like with the options above.
What is the price of the MTN Irancell SIM card?
You may have to pay between 30,000 IRR (Iranian Rial) or roughly $0.7 and 58,000 IRR ($1.37) for MTN Irancell SIM cards. Those are called Visitor’s SIM, require a passport ID, vary in benefits, and can be purchased at stores and international airports. Users, particularly residents, may pay much less if they opt for long-term postpaid SIM card plans or lower prepaid SIM plans. However, the price won’t go as low as in other countries MTN has a presence in, since low-cost plans are unpopular.
